The CIPTEC Consortium and EMTA General Assembly join forces to advance Public Transport!

CIPTEC project meeting and interactive validation workshop of WP2

In brief

The 3rd CIPTEC project meeting was organised by project partner European Metropolitan Transport Authorities (EMTA) in May 2016. Under the coordination of EMTA and the hosting metropolitan Public Transport Authority of Hungary’s capital, Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (BKK), CIPTEC partners and EMTA’s delegates combined their meetings at the impressive New City Hall of Budapest on the 11th – 13th of May. The CIPTEC project meeting and validation workshops, enhanced by the presence of EMTA’s delegates, created a unique opportunity for the project and its participants to engage in fruitful and constructive discussions. The project’s workshops, with the participation of around 35 external participants and experts, were attended by almost 120 member-organisations of the EMTA Assembly, which is composed of local networks’ CEOs and strategic managers.

CIPTEC partners agreed to renew their meeting, this time in Brussels on the 8th of June 2016, at the already scheduled EU-level workshop of CIPTEC, where external experts will validate WP1 activities regarding PTAs’, PTOs’ and users’ needs, as well as market and societal trends affecting PT.

Enhancing CIPTEC events with the participation of EMTA’s delegates proved an excellent chance for disseminating CIPTEC results, receiving feedback on the concluding and forthcoming activities and creating synergies that could benefit the CIPTEC project and its partners.

On the first day, in particular, the first part of the internal discussion of the CIPTEC project meeting took place. CIPTEC Project Coordinator, Prof. Aristotelis Naniopoulos (AUTh/TSRG) presented an overview of advancement of the project during the 1st year of implementation. After that, the partners discussed about the progress of the activities of the first two Work Packages. A series of technical visits took place, namely to the Metro line M4, the MOL Bubi Bike sharing project, the FUTÁR PT dispatch centre and other places of interest.

At the beginning of the second day the BKK CEO, Dr. Kálmán Dabóczi, the EMTA president, Mr. Wolfgang Schroll, and the CIPTEC Coordinator, Prof. Aristotelis Naniopoulos, welcomed the participants from the CIPTEC project consortium and EMTA’s member-organisations. The CIPTEC promotional video was presented and a special infographic poster featuring the results of a survey on global trends influencing Public Transport was offered as a gift to all participants by Prof. Naniopoulos. Following that, the CIPTEC validation Workshop for WP2 (Mapping and evaluation of existing innovative services and practices) took place. The workshop was organized by CIPTEC partner Mobycon and took place with the participation of EMTA delegates. The aim of the workshop was to validate the most promising and the most controversial innovations as they had resulted from previous questionnaire surveys addressed to CIPTEC partners and external experts. After presentations delivered by CIPTEC members and invited speakers to trigger the interest of participants, (e.g. Mr. Jose Viegas from the International Transport Forum), the innovations were assessed by all participants in six discussion groups. A seven-member panel discussion with top experts and businessmen coming from the mobility sector followed. Another workshop with all participants for the evaluation of Task’s 1.3 results on the profiling of PTAs and PTOs and their needs took place at the afternoon session. The day was completed with the second internal part of CIPTEC project meeting regarding WP3 on collective intelligence and the presentation of BKK innovations on Public Transport.

The last day of the event was dedicated to two more workshops. The first one, organised by CIPTEC partner Tero Ltd., referred to the pilot demonstration of the demo version of CIPTEC’s crowdsourcing platform. During the second workshop, organised by CIPTEC partner MemEx, the Toolbox to be developed at the project was presented and discussed with the participants. At the end of this day, CIPTEC partners discussed on the dissemination activities and the financial management of the project.
